HB7 Bass Tuning Machine (Sold Individually)

Stop fighting slipping tuners and start locking in the pocket. The HB7 replaces sloppy stock tuners with high-precision, tour-ready stability. Spend less time tuning and more time playing—your pitch will be locked in before your guitarist even touches their pedalboard.

Part of the Hipshot American Classics Series, the HB7 is the premium drop-in upgrade for modern Fender-style basses. Engineered as a direct replacement for Fender® Highway One and Made in Mexico (MIM) tuning machines, this footprint is found across a wide range of models from Vintage Modified Squier® models to Fender USA and Custom Shop Jazz and Precision basses. The HB7 is also the go-to choice for luthiers who demand uncompromising reliability.

Classic Style, Precision Engineered

We’ve captured the timeless open-gear tuner style and supercharged it with a precise 27:1 gear ratio. This gives you the micro-adjustment necessary to dial in dead-on tuning accuracy. From late-night practice to sweating it out on stage, the HB7 lets you forget about your hardware and lets you get locked into the groove.

  • Drop-in replacement: Direct replacement design for a seamless upgrade without unnecessary modification.
  • Crafted to Last: Precision laser cut and machined stainless steel construction with no cheap casting or stamping.
  • Precision Performance 27:1 gear ratio for incredibly fine tuning adjustments and superior stability.
  • Customizable Feel: Adjustable tension nylon bearing system allows you to dial in the perfect feel while tuning up or down.
  • Quality Materials: The stainless steel key prevents tarnishing and rust where you touch the tuner the most, keeping your hardware looking and performing at its peak.
  • Universal Compatibility Reversible shaft design allows you to easily convert a tuning machine to treble or bass side headstocks.
  • Premium Finishes: Available in black, nickel, and gold to match your instrument's hardware.
  • Key Style Options: Available in classic clover leaf or lollipop key style.
  • Sold Individually: To easily accommodate 5-string (or more) players, each tuner is sold individually.
  • Mounting hardware included.
  • Clover vs Lollipop

While mostly known for the clover key shape, for a brief period in the mid to late 1960s Fender used the lollipop key shape, perhaps to sweeten the tone.

    Will It Fit My Bass?

Designed to replace the original Schaller BMF footprint, if your bass has 11/16" peghead holes and the same mounting pattern, the HB2 will fit. Still not sure? Check out our full scale comparison chart above with your bass to ensure a seamless fit.

been wanting to replace the tuners on my MIM Fender P bass for ages (had already replaced the bridge, knobs and strings with black ones) Band just started to add some songs in drop-D so figured the extender was an obvious add-on if I was replacing them anyway. Can't wait for next practice!

I added these to my 2021 Mexican Player series P Bass. I ordered them through a 3rd party supplier. Unfortunately the bushings were the wrong size. I emailed Hipshot and Bill got in touch the same day. He shipped (for Free, I didn't ask he just did it) the correct bigger sized bushings. They look great on my bass. All my guitars and basses have Hipshot tuners and after this super positive experience every future bass will have them as well. Cheers

Installed the A Style Fender Bridge and a set of HB7 Tuning Machines in black on my Fender Player Series Precision bass. I love the look of the black hardware on the white body and maple neck. The bridge fit with no problems at all. I had a problem with the tuners on the install. I needed the oversized bushings instead of standard and thanks to the great customer service, I had the tuners installed a few days later. I will definitely look at Hipshotproducts if I need to upgrade any guitar or bass in the future.

Such a fantastic product!!! My guitar tech just dropped these bad boys in; a simple, and direct conversion to my MIM Fender Jazz. No modification was necessary. NOW, my bass stays PERFECTLY in tune. When coupled with a Hipshot string retainer, proper string tension is truly maintained. The resulting tone is phenomenal! This makes it possible for me to focus on what's REALLY important: the music. Thanks, Hipshot!

I just installed these tuners on my MIM Precision bass, and they're fabulous. They look great, and they're a big improvement over the stock ones. This bass also sports a new Hipshot high-mass bridge. I really like this company, their products are great and the service is top notch. Rock on!

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

Always a pleasure! I've purchased from Hipshot many times and it's always awesome. Plus, they always send a sticker - I love that!

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

Excellent tuners. High quality. Fit the Player series perfectly and ended up using the existing bushings.

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

The tuners worked out perfectly, although I haven’t tried to change the strings. Since they were installed with the tuners. I appreciate the good customer service.

I was never happy with the tuning machines on my Epiphone JC-1 bass. Sloppy, erratic, crummy feeling machines on an otherwise fine instrument. The Hipshot HB7s fit, look stock and are a world apart. To describe them as "buttery smooth" is an understatement. Now when I pick up the bass it's still in tune from the previous night. I used to think the slipped tuning was an issue with the wood, but these machines cured that as well. Highly recommended.

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

These are great! Super good tuning stability and everything. They didn’t perfectly drop into my player pbass. Seems to be a fender thing not a hip shot thing

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

I just installed the HB7s on my Squire J-Bass. Love them. These were a direct fit no problems. I love this bass and while putting these beauties on this thing may seem like lipstick on a pig, but it's my pig. These things are outstanding. Tuning is so much simpler now. The ratio on these make the tuning process much cleaner. These are great replacements. Thanks, Eric.

i was hesitant paying a small fortune for these hipshot tuners. but when i installed them?? good lord these things are smooth

HB7 Bass Tuning Machine

I purchased a set of these and installed them on my Japanese Fender 62 reissue P Bass. These little babies made a world of difference! The stock tuning keys are very touchy and quickly go from “perfectly in tune” to “way out” with just a fraction of a turn. The HB7’s are a huge improvement. Now my bass tunes like a high end bass. Plus the tension screw is great. I can adjust it so that they’re not so easy to turn. Try that with a stock tuner! I was not sure which tuners would fit my bass, so I emailed Jason and he was very helpful. He suggested the HB7’s but said I would likely have to re-drill a few holes. To my surprise, 3 of the 4 holes lined up, so I only had to drill 1 hole per tuner. These tuners, along with a few other mods, made my ol’ 62 RI into my “go to” bass. I’d recommend them to anyone.
