I love how quick and easy the Freerange Xtender makes it to change tunings! It is especially useful for playing old-time music on the bass, a style in which the fiddle it often cross-tuned. I wanted a way to rapidly and reliably alter my tuning to match and blend with fiddle players, and found it - it opens up so many possibilities both live and in the studio (the Xtender was used on several tracks for my duo recording with fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves). I'm excited to see what new innovations are next for the forward-thinking people at Hipshot!

For quint tuning, actually, because of the difference in tension on the neck, the tuner will be needed on the D string to make sure it stays on pitch, because enough tension is let go on the E to C and A to G that the neck will flex pulling the D string sharp.
